The working behind the answer

How to use this calculator

Use a target and current balance in the same currency, then enter a positive contribution for your chosen period. The result counts contributions rather than predicting a date, so it works with weeks, months or another consistent interval.

The formula

Plan regular contributions

Remaining = max(0, target − saved); periods = remaining ÷ contribution, rounded up

A worked example

With a £1,000 target and £200 already saved, £800 remains. Saving £150 per month takes six contributions: five of £150 and a final £50.

Good to know

No interest, investment performance, inflation or withdrawals are included. If the target is already reached, zero further periods are needed. This is arithmetic planning rather than a recommendation about a savings product.

Common questions

What if I have already saved more than the target?

The remaining amount and required contributions are both zero.

Are interest earnings included?

No. Only the target, current amount and regular contribution are used.
