The working behind the answer

How to use this calculator

Enter the price before the discount, then the percentage being taken off. Use the final price to compare an offer against another seller. For a business promotion, check the margin calculator as well: the size of a discount does not tell you whether the sale is profitable.

The formula

Calculate a discount

Saving = original price × discount ÷ 100; final price = original price − saving

A worked example

A 25% discount on £80 saves £20, leaving a final price of £60. The same arithmetic works in other currencies; selecting a currency changes the display, not the numbers.

Good to know

One discount is applied to the entered original price. Delivery charges and taxes are not added. Two successive discounts must be applied in sequence rather than simply added together.

Common questions

What does a 100% discount mean?

The saving equals the full original price, leaving a final price of zero.

Do two 10% discounts equal 20% off?

No. On £100, the first reduces the price to £90 and the next to £81: a total saving of 19%.
